Thefts Reported At Weekend Yard Sales

Thefts were reported during the weekend by both a person conducting a yard sale and a person attending a yard sale, at separate locations in Summertown.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were called to investigation after an individual having a yard sale at 15 Highway 20 fell ill, then discovered his wallet had been stolen.

The victim reported that while setting up a yard sale booth he became ill and passed out while sitting inside his car.

He told deputies that several people were present and that they pulled him from his car to lay him on the ground, then requested dispatch of the Lawrence County Emergency Medical Service.

The victim said that he had been on dialysis for several weeks and that he suffered from various other medical conditions.

Once he began to feel better, the victim reports that he noticed his wallet, that at the time held $170 cash, was missing.

Deputies were later dispatched to investigate when a man reported his property was stolen while he was perusing a yard sale at 80 Highway 20.

While he was looking over the yard sale goods, he said someone stole a Thompson Center Omega 50 caliber muzzleloader from the front seat of his Jeep.

He told deputies that he had failed to lock the doors, and that one window was down. The gun, along with an attached Nikon scope, is valued at $500.

Investigation into both crimes is continuing currently through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone with information should contact the department at 931-762-3626.
