Mother And Son Arrested In Domestic Dispute

A mother and son were arrested Thursday when law enforcement officers were dispatched to intervene in a domestic dispute at their Overnack Road home.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched on the call around 11:00 a.m. When they arrived, they report that residents Angela Sharron Grandberry, 47, and Asian Ravel Matthews, 21, were in the front yard.

Matthews reported that his mother had assaulted him across the back with a broom and requested medical attention.

Grandberry told deputies that she had been trying to sweep the floor when they became involved in a verbal altercation. She said that her son had repeatedly called her disrespectful names and at one time pushed her, causing her to stumble.

She told deputies that she, “kept taking and taking from him until she could no longer do it,” and that she struck him across the back at least two times, breaking the broom. She told deputies that she had asked him to leave prior to the altercation, but that he had refused to do so.

Grandberry was arrested on a charge of aggravated domestic assault and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center.

Deputies report that Matthews was transported to Crockett Hospital for medical attention. They obtained a warrant, charging him with domestic assault. Once he had been cleared for release they arrested him at the hospital and transported him for incarceration.
