Owner Discovers Her Stored Belongings Inside Rental Property During Fire

A local woman notified of a fire at her rental property Friday was surprised to find her stored belongings inside.

The owner was called to her Spout Springs Road property shortly before 2:00 p.m. when a water heater caught fire. Once the blaze was extinguished she went inside to examine the damage. Inside, she found several items that did not belong to her renter, but rather to herself.

The victim reported to Lawrenceburg Police officers that she utilized an outbuilding on the property to store her belongings. She said that she had not given the resident permission to take her things. Officers found that someone had broken into the outbuilding by prying a bolt latch off one of the doors.

The individual who cuts grass at the property told officers that he had noticed the resident inside the outbuilding the day before. He said that when he confronted him, the resident told him the owner, “Gave him permission to take what he wanted.”

At the time reports was filed officers had been unable to question the resident because he had been transported to Crockett Hospital for medical attention.
