Owner Reports $50k+ Loss Resulted From Burglary

More than $50,000 in loss was reported by the owner of an Ethridge property on Monday.

The Lawrenceburg resident filed a report through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, indicating that the burglary had occurred at his Highway 43 North property.

The victim reported that this was the latest in several burglaries that had taken place at the address during the past few years.

He said that he arrived at the property Monday to find that someone had broken a lock in order to gain access to the interior of his garage.

In addition, a lock on a “moving van type vehicle” had been damaged and items taken from within.

The victim said that once they gained entry to the garage the culprits moved an engine hoist and aluminum jack handle outside.

Taken were several racing motors and carburetors, three rolling tool chests filled with tools, a diamond plate truck toolbox, and various electrical tools.

Deputies report locating a camouflage duffle bag that had apparently been left behind by the suspects. Inside were new gloves, as well as several items that belonged to the victim.

Deputies also found lying outside the garage, a leather pouch that contained a butane pocket torch commonly associated with illegal drug use.  They reported that this, too, had been left behind by the culprits.

Altogether the victim estimated his losses to total $52,050. Investigation into the crime is currently continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
