Resident Reports Signs Damaged, Destroyed

Law enforcement officials were called upon to investigate late last week after a South Lawrence resident discovered that signs he had erected had been damaged and destroyed.

The victim, age 49, spoke with deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Friday afternoon. He reported that he had recently erected signs at two separate intersections.

One had been placed at the Iron City Road/Wayland Springs Road intersection, the other at the intersection of Iron City Road and U.S. Highway 43 South.

The victim told deputies that both signs had been torn down and damaged. He was able to repair damages to one sign, but he said the other was destroyed. He said that he, “Understood there was problems with what his signs were representing.” He speculated that the crimes were not committed by juveniles, but by an adult.

Damages were estimated to total $200.
