Burglary At Church Being Investigated

A burglary reported Sunday by officials at one Lawrence County church is currently under investigation through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.

Reports show that deputies were called to Mt. Zion Methodist Church on West Point Road shortly before 4:00 p.m. A church representative reported she had arrived to find that items inside the church had been moved about and that several items were missing.

Missing items included a vacuum cleaner, garbage can, candle holders, antique doily, and cases of paper towels, plates, and bowls, along with boxes of Kleenex. The items had a combined value of around $237.

The pastor reported seeing a suspicious vehicle at the church a week before. He reported that a woman in a yellow Volkswagen beetle had been parked behind the church. He said that the woman appeared to be texting, but that there is no signal available at the church. When he approached her, he said she appeared to become startled and quickly drove away.

Investigation into the matter is continuing by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
