Home Burglarized While Residents Are Away
A local couple returned from a trip Tuesday to find that their home and outbuilding had been burglarized.
The male victim reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday that he and his wife had been away for a week. He said they returned to find a door to a utility shed standing open.
Although the door was not locked, he reported that the culprit had pried off the latch. Missing from inside were five large remote control airplanes and a spare key to their house.
The victim showed deputies that an exterior door of the house had been pried open. A key had apparently been used to open a locked interior door.
The victim’s pain medications and a pair of earrings were missing along with frozen chicken and beef patties, pancake syrup, hot pockets, and three bags of potato chips from the pantry.
Reports note that numerous electronic items were left untouched. Total loss was estimated to be $1,700.
