The NRA responds to Walmart's decision to stop selling ammunition, and asking customers not to carry firearms in their retail stores.

Walmart announced on Tuesday that they will end sales of ammunition for short-barrel rifles such as the .223 caliber, 5.56 caliber, and all handgun ammunition once the stores current inventory sells out along with stopping the sells of handguns which would be at their Alaska store since they are the only state still selling handguns.

Doug McMillon Walmart's CEO said the changes that are occurring at their retail store are an effort to reduce gun violence following the mass shootings in Ohio and Texas.

McMillon also stated they are asking customers not to carry firearms in stores in states with “open carry” laws unless they are authorized law enforcement officers.

After Walmart's announcement Jessica Adelman Kroger's group vice president of corporate affairs issued a statement saying, “Kroger is respectfully asking that customers no longer openly carry firearms into our stores, other than authorized law enforcement officers. We are also joining those encouraging our elected leaders to pass laws that will strengthen background checks and remove weapons from those who have been found to pose a risk for violence."

Following the Statements released by Walmart the National Rifle Association spoke on the retail store's decision, and how their actions will not make for a safer society.

NRA said in a statement, "It is shameful to see Walmart succumb to the pressure of the anti-gun elites. Lines at Walmart will soon be replaced by lines at other retailers who are more supportive of America’s fundamental freedoms."

The National Rifle Association went on to say, " The truth is Walmart's actions today will not make us any safer. Rather than place the blame on the criminal, Walmart has chosen to victimize law abiding Americans."
