Woman Charged With Having Drugs In Motel Room With Youngster

A Lawrenceburg woman is facing charges after law enforcement officials found her inside a motel room during the weekend with a youngster and drugs.

Jennifer Rhodes, age 30, was arrested at Traveler’s Motel, 900 North Locust Avenue in Lawrenceburg, shortly after 10:30 Sunday night on charges of child neglect, possession of Schedule II narcotics (morphine), possession of Schedule II narcotics (meth), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report knocking on the door of the motel room in an attempt to serve an outstanding warrant to James Travis Murks.

Rhodes reportedly told them that Murks had not been in the room that day. While speaking with Rhodes deputies report noticing a boy lying across a bed beside a box that contained medications and a baby wipes box bearing duct tape.

Deputies indicate that Rhodes offered no denial when questioned about drugs inside the room. During a search they report finding spoons that bore both meth and morphine residue along with syringes and numerous other items of drug paraphernalia.

Numerous plastic baggies used in the distribution of illegal narcotics were seized, many marked with weight and usage.

Reports show that numerous medication bottles were found inside the motel room that had been prescribed to the same woman. Rhodes said that they had planned to, “use them when they got sick.”

The contraband was seized into evidence. Reports show that, “due to the amount of drugs and the types of drugs that were involved,” a motorcycle that the couple purchased from a pawn shop was seized, as well.

The grandparents of the thirteen year old boy were called to take custody of him.

When she arrived for booking at the Lawrence County Detention Center deputies report that Rhodes admitted that Murks had escaped out the bathroom window when deputies began to knock.

Deputies had noted that the window was not secured and that there appeared to be fresh scuff marks around it.

Rhodes is scheduled to answer the charges against her in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on October 15, 2013. A warrant was issued against Murks, charging him with the crime of evading arrest.
