Lawrenceburg Fire Department And Main Street To Hold 9/11 Remembrance Service

The Lawrenceburg Fire Department and Main Street Lawrenceburg are partnering to honor and remember those lost and acts of heroism during the 9/11/01 terror attacks on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 with first annual City of Lawrenceburg 9/11 Remembrance Service.

The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Historic Crockett Theater and will include a special presentation honoring first responders that perished during the 9/11 attack.

Local public safety workers will also pay tribute to the four men, two firefighters and two law enforcement officers, who have died in the line of duty in while serving in Lawrence County. LFD Firefighter and event planner Tyler McDow stated, “During the 9/11 attack 343 first responders died in the line of duty.
I feel we should remember those who paid the ultimate price while trying to help those in need
and the four individuals who’ve died while serving Lawrence Countians over the years.”

At the 7:15 p.m. conclusion of the theater service., city and county firefighters, local law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and dispatchers will lead a procession to the Lawrenceburg Square where a candlelight vigil will be held at sunset to reflect on the historic
events of the day.

The ceremony will feature patriotic music from local performers and a professional bagpiper, and the lighting of a “343” candle to mark emergency service fatalities.

Event organizers also plan to advantage of high powered spotlights to recreate New York City’s
“columns of light” to commemorate the World Trade Center towers that were lost in the 2001
attack.

“Each of us remembers where we were the morning of the 9/11 attacks and how we felt watching the events unfold before our eyes. A lot of things have changed since then but one thing that's remained the same is the commitment, bravery, and heroism of our public safety workers.

Come out and honor those lost, but remember to thank those who are currently
serving,” McDow said.
