Vehicle Fire Suspected Instance Of Arson

Authorities responding to a vehicle fire in the Summertown area Monday reported it was believed to be an instance of arson.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that the fire was reported around 10:00 p.m. A neighbor went to the 238 Davis Street home to awaken the resident and alert her to the fire.

Deputies report that members of the Summertown Fire Department were already on the scene when they arrived, and were in the process of extinguishing the blaze. The resident’s 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee was ablaze and had sustained severe damages. The vehicle was valued at $5,500.

The resident told deputies that an ex-boyfriend had made threats to damage her vehicle. She said that when she looked out she noticed that the passenger side rear door was standing open.

Fire Investigator Shayne Adams with the Lawrenceburg Fire Department was notified of the situation. Since he was unavailable at that time the vehicle was towed to a secure location pending further investigation.
