State Officials Implement Burn Permit Order

State officials have implemented emergency measures, requiring a burning permit outside of the normal burn permit season.

The measure was implemented Wednesday through the Nashville Office of State Forestry. During a meeting it was determined that, due to safety concerns raised by continued extreme drought conditions, all residents wishing to conduct any type of outdoor burning must obtain a burn permit before doing so.

The normal season during which burn permits are required is October 15 through May 15 each year. Conditions must become extreme before officials impose a Burn Permit Order outside of these dates.

Tennessee Division of Forestry Technician for Lawrence and Giles Counties Donnie Barnett pointed out Wednesday, “Because it is so dry, at the present time we are not issuing any permits.”

A press release regarding the order is slated to be issued on Monday.
