A Lawrenceburg man was arrested over the weekend after attempting to evade authorties into a nearby backyard following a traffic stop.

On Saturday morning the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling along 3rd street without registration plates.

The 21 year old driver, Thomas Higham, attempted to evade the Deputy by driving through a stop sign before turning onto 4th street, and trying to flee into a residential backyard.

The Deputy quickly halted Highman's attempted escape where he ordered the suspect out of the vehicle, and after consent was given a search was conducted.

A 9mm pistol with one bullet was discovered along with 5.3 grams of what was believed to be marijuana, a bottle containing a white powder, a grinder, and a bb gun.

Highman was arrested on charges of evading arrest, simple possession, driving without a license, failure to stop, and driving with an unregistered vehicle where he was transported to the Lawrence County Jail without further incident.
