Stolen Vehicle Abandoned On Lawrenceburg Street

Law enforcement officials learned Sunday evening that a vehicle found abandoned in the middle of a street had been stolen from a nearby business.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched to the western portion of Second Street, adjacent to Crossroads Coffee Shop, around 10:51 p.m. Motorists reported they had traveling along Second Street when they came upon a blue 2001 Dodge Dakota truck that had been abandoned in the middle of the roadway. No one, they reported, was anywhere near the truck at the time they spotted it.

Officers found that the driver side door appeared to have been pried open. Pry marks were located near the door lock, causing the door to be pushed back into the front fender. Officers noted that the perpetrator had also attempted to strip items from inside the truck Pry marks were noted around the dash area. The steering column had been pried away from the dash, however the stereo system was still intact.

Investigation revealed that the truck belonged to Carl Douglas Rawdon of Lawrenceburg. Rawdon responded to the scene. He told officers he had left the truck at Jeff’s Auto Repair, 220 Second Street, for repair.

Damages to the vehicle were estimated to total $800. Investigation has been turned over to detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
