Firefighter Treated For Heat Exhaustion At Scene Of Blaze

A local firefighter was treated at the scene of a Saturday morning blaze after being overcome by heat.

The emergency call went out at 6:11 a.m. to a home situated on U.S. Highway 64 West. Passerby Timmy Smith placed a 911 call, explaining that smoke was emerging from both ends of the brick, ranch style structure.

Once at the scene, firefighters were able to knock back the flames and extinguish the blaze. While working at the scene, reports indicate that a firefighter with West End Fire Department was overcome by the heat. Firefighter Josh Violet was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire. Owner John Dixon, who had been working to renovate the home, was out of town.

Investigation into the source of the blaze is continuing at the present time.
