Deputy Sustains Dog Bite While Serving Paperwork

Reports indicate that a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy who was attempting to serve paperwork at a Loretto area home late last week was bitten by the resident’s dog.

According to reports filed through the department, as required by the Department of Health, the bite was sustained by Deputy Jason Runnels shortly before 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2009.

Runnels reported that he had approached a house situated at 244 Old Jackson Highway in order to serve civil process, and had knocked upon the door. While awaiting a response, he reports that the resident’s bulldog bit him on the upper left leg.

Runnels reportedly did not sustain serious injury as a result of the incident, but he reports that the bite did leave a small abrasion.
