Resident In Possession Of Prohibited Weapon At Market

After responding to an unwanted person call at an area market Friday morning, law enforcement officers report that a man inside the store was found to be in possession of a prohibited weapon.

Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies responded to Self's Market where they made contact with employees. They reported that Charles Fredrick Staggs, 35, who was inside the store, had been begging for money and a ride.

Deputies report that when they confronted Staggs he repeatedly placed his hand into his jacket pocket. He was ordered to keep his hands out of his pockets.

Once they learned that there were two active arrest warrants on file for Staggs they placed him under arrest. They found that he had brass knuckles inside his pocket. He was additionally charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

Staggs was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was processed without incident.
