Arrest Made In 2006 Murder

Authorities with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced Thursday afternoon that an arrest has been made in connection with the brutal murder of a West Point man that occurred in 2006.

Jeffrey Leo Rochelle, age 23, of 134 Aaron Branch Road, West Point, was arrested on one count of first degree murder Thursday. He was charged at the Lawrence County Jail while incarcerated on unrelated charges.

Rochelle is accused in connection with the August 17, 2006 death of David Folger, age 47. Folger was found severely beaten on the porch of 93 North Chisholm Road; the home of Rochelle’s parents. Folger had been house-sitting while Rochelle’s parents were away. A TBI press release states that, “Rochelle didn’t want Folger in the home and proceeded to beat him…”

Folger was transported for medical attention, but died some eight days later as a result of his injuries.

Since that time detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division of the sheriff’s department have continued to gather evidence in regards to the case. That evidence was presented recently to a Lawrence County Grand Jury, who opted to return an indictment.

Rochelle is slated for an initial appearance in Lawrence County Circuit Court on August 9, 2010.
