Undercover Drug Operation Yields Arrest

Local drug agents report that an arrest has been made in connection with an undercover operation into the local sale of prescription medications.

The operation was undertaken on July 16, 2008, by agents with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Crime Suppression Unit. Acting on information from a concerned citizen, officials report agents began to conduct surveillance on several different persons of interest. Agents were able to log instances of the sale and purchase of the prescription drugs Morphine, Lortab, Soma, Xanax, and Percocet.

According to a press release issued Monday, “As the investigation proceeded, agents were able to develop informants which led them to the main source of supply for these highly abused drugs.”

As a result of the operation Stephen R. Smith, 46, of 619 Revilo Road, was arrested on charges of sale of a controlled substance on July 18.

Agents report, “A total of 298 dosage units of different drugs were seized, as well as Smith’s 1996 Ford F-350 extended cab truck. Also seized was $1,430.00 in currency and a tazer that Smith had on his person.”

Once warrants had been issued against him, agents report that Smith surrendered himself at the Lawrence County Jail where he was processed without instance. Bond was established at $20.000.00.
