The Loretto police department received "Worldwide" attention for "meth gator" post in which they are using to create a charity for children.

The Loretto police department had shared a post to their page on July 13th detailing a search warrant they had served where a suspect had attempted to flush narcotics down the toilet.

Several local news outlets covered the story including WLX and Lawrenceburg Now where our coverage stated the department ended the post with a little light humor, and quoted the reference to flushing drugs down the toilet, "meth gator."

The Loretto police department shared on Friday a post where they stated, "We would like to start by saying we NEVER expected the response we have gotten for the “meth-gator” post. Its reach has literally been worldwide with stories being posted/printed all over the U.S., England, China, Australia, Russia, and New Zealand. Chief has had interviews with NBC, the BBC, Fox News, Inside Edition, and a host of local and regional television and radio stations. This is simply amazing. He has also fielded a few calls from professionals fearing we actually had a meth influenced gator in our custody."

The department had to explain as they refer to as " our cousins across the pond", that the meth gator is not real, they do not have one in their possession, and was just a humorous way of explaining the dangers of flushing drugs.

After the worldwide response they are wanting to use the new fame to launch a website where you can purchase shirts along with possibly other apparel that will have the department's logo on it with some of their humorous post like Officer Rocket Launcher, the meth gator, and Linda.

Loretto police department explains that all proceeds, profit, money left after operating the website/sending out the merchandise will be donated to a local charity that deals directly with children affected by drug use, and they hope If they are successful enough to be able to branch out to support school programs.

Officer Thomas also stated that, "This is being structured in such a way that no on-duty officer will have time taken away from their duties or responsibilities. All professional services are being donated."
