The Lawrence County Sheriff's office handled a standoff situation where a suspect had barricaded himself near local skating rink.

 

The Lawrence County Sheriff's office was dispatched around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday to Highway 64 in Leoma near the Skating Rink with reports of a barricaded suspect.

Multiple agencies were also on the scene assisting in the standoff that closed Highway 64 with traffic backed up at a standstill.

Sheriff John Myers released an alert on the office's page advising motorists to find an alternative route while traveling as they had closed North and Southbound traffic on Highway 43 while they are working a situation involving a barricaded suspect.

Around 6:00 p.m. Highway 43 was open with reports of the standoff being peacefully resolved, and one suspect being taken into custody.

At this time the sheriffs office has not released any further details surrounding the standoff.
