Pulaski Man Arrested Inside Factory After Evading Police

A Pulaski man was apprehended inside a Lawrenceburg factory last week after allegedly fleeing from, then evading police officers.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department reported that they attempted to make a traffic stop on a man on a motorcycle in the vicinity of Remke Avenue, after they noticed that he appeared to be texting while driving. The incident occurred shortly before 7:00 p.m. near the Helton Drive intersection.

Once they activated their lights and sirens, officers report that the suspect, later identified as Derico Sharon Brown, age 23, looked at them, then "took off." Brown led them on a lengthy chase, but they ultimately terminated the pursuit for fear it was creating a hazard for other drivers.

A French fry container that Brown had discarded as he fled led officers to a local restaurant where employees were able to identify him. Officers learned that he worked at DURA Automotive and quickly obtained warrants, charging him with evading arrest and driving on a revoked license.

When two officers made contact with Brown at DURA they report that he, "Tried to push off and run and that is when all three of us fell to the floor."

Officers repeatedly ordered Brown to cease struggling, but report that he continued to struggle. Once he was secured, officers report finding two different types of prescription pills in his pocket, "Along with a drug tooter."

While they were escorting Brown to the patrol car, officers indicate that he, "Took off running across the parking lot." They caught up to him and further restrained him with leg shackles. They indicate that he continued to kick and resist while being placed inside the car.

After arriving at the Lawrence County Detention Center officers report that they asked Brown why he ran. He told them that he, "Didn't want to be away from is kids."

Brown was booked under charges that include evading arrest, resisting arrest, simple possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving on a revoked driver license. He was scheduled an initial General Sessions Court date of October 3, 2014.
