Authorities Investigate Cattle Shootings In Summertown

Local law enforcement officials are currently working to identify the culprit who has been shooting and killing cows on one Summertown farm.

According to reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department an investigation was launched on Friday after a resident of 735 Railroad Bed Pike filed a complaint.

The victim told deputies that on Monday, July 11 he had found two of his calves lying dead in the field. Both, he said, had sustained gunshot wounds.

Two days later, the victim said, he found that another of his cows was down. He discovered it had been shot in the face with what appeared to be a small caliber weapon. Although he cared for the animal, he told deputies the cow died Friday morning.

At this point, the victim said he has incurred losses of $1,800. He said he had no idea who could be shooting his cattle.

Investigation into the matter is continuing at the present time. Anyone who has information is encouraged to contact the department at 762-3626.
