Stolen Vehicle Wrecked And Abandoned

A vehicle reported stolen from a home in western Lawrence early Sunday morning, was quickly found to have been wrecked and abandoned.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department made their way to the 2703 Fish Trapp Road home shortly after 4:00 a.m.

The 49-year-old resident reported that her live-in friend had awakened her shortly before to inquire about the whereabouts of their black, 1998 Jeep Cherokee.

The 36-year-old man told deputies that he had awakened around 2:00 a.m. and got the keys from the victim’s purse so that he could unlock the vehicle and retrieve a pack of cigarettes. He indicated he may have left the keys inside the vehicle or in the door lock. When he went out again around 4:00 a.m. to smoke a cigarette, he stated he found that the vehicle was missing.

Just before 5:30 a.m., the reporting deputy indicates he was en route back to the sheriff’s department when he found the missing vehicle. It had been overturned on North Chisholm Creek Road. No one, the deputy reports, was about.
