Trees Must Be Trimmed For Repaving To Begin

In order for repaving work to get underway in the First through Sixth Street area, Lawrenceburg Street Department Superintendent Jerry Smith says numerous trees must be trimmed to make room for the needed machinery.

Smith informed members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council of the situation during a business meeting Thursday. Smith said that throughout the years trees on properties in that neighborhood, though beautiful, have grown over the streets to the point that it will prohibit them bringing in the heavy machinery to perform the work.

Smith indicated that in coming days members of his department will attempt to speak with all the property owners affected to discuss the matter. “I’m not going to try to butcher a tree,” Smith pointed out, “I’m going to try to make it look the best I can.”

Although the trimming project is being initiated due to upcoming paving along these streets, Smith pointed out that the overhanging limbs prevent city garbage trucks, fire trucks, and the likes, from functioning optimally in that neighborhood as well.
