Resident Tracks Down Stolen Items; Reports Gold Already Melted

A local woman reported to authorities last week that she had tracked down several jewelry items that had recently been stolen from her, only to find that most of those made from precious metals had already been melted down.

The victim, age 40, reported she noticed the items were missing last week while cleaning inside her home. She discovered that 80 quarters, 2 silver dollars, 12 gold coins, a wedding ring, two gold necklaces, a gold ring, a pendant, an uncut pearl, a silver arrowhead, and some costume jewelry, were missing from her jewelry box. Authorities estimated loss to total nearly $500.

The victim indicated she had suspected her son’s friend and confronted him about the theft. She told deputies the young man confessed, then told her where he had sold the items. She stated that she went to the business and spoke with workers there.

One verified that the young man had sold items there. He stated that the gold items had already been melted down, but was able to provide her with a list of items purchased.

Reports show the victim was able to recover only two items. Deputies advised her regarding the process of obtaining criminal warrants in order to prosecute the theft.

Investigation into the matter is on-going at the current time through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
