Name Of Fire Victim Released

Officials have released the name of a Lawrenceburg resident killed when fire erupted inside his Voss Street home Sunday morning.

Officials report that Leland Richard “Richie” Marston, 54, perished inside his 365 Voss Street home during a 6:00 a.m. fire. Marston’s body was found inside a bedroom where he had fallen as he apparently attempted to escape.

Firefighters with the Lawrenceburg Fire Department were dispatched to the home around 6:15 a.m. Upon arrival they report that flames had already burned through the roof. Firefighters were able to contain the flames inside the brick structure, however Fire Investigator Shayne Adams reports that the structure was a total loss.

Marston’s body has been dispatched to the Medical Examiner’s office in Nashville for autopsy.

Two firefighters were transported for medical treatment while battling the blaze. Jeff Kersteins was flown via Air Evac to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville after experiencing chest pains. Firefighter Jeremy Johnson was transported to Crockett Hospital for treatment after he reportedly suffered heat exhaustion. Johnson reportedly received treatment and was then released from the facility. It is believed at this point that both will make a full recovery.

During initial investigation to rule out any criminal activity, Adams reported that arson dogs detected no traces of any type of accelerant. Although no determination has yet been made regarding how the blaze began, Adams says at this point they have found no signs of foul play. Both he and state investigators are continuing their investigation today.
