Owners Of Abandoned Animals Leave Note

Owners who abandoned their pets in the brutal 90-plus degree weather, left a note behind saying they did not know when they would return.

Property owner Jeff Parott summoned Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies to the 56 Williams Hill Road, Leoma, property shortly before 6:00 p.m. Saturday. Parott explained that his tenants had apparently abandoned their pets, leaving them behind to starve.

Reports filed through the sheriff’s department show that two dogs were found at the home, chained to tress with master locks around their necks.

Both, deputies note, had no food or water, and one had dried blood on its head. The wound, deputies report, “looked as if someone had hit it.” According to reports, the dogs’ bones were protruding beneath their skin.

The owner had located a note on the door that stated, “We are gone somewhere and don’t know when we are coming back.”

Reports indicate the property was left in a state of disarray, with trash strewn about.

The case has been handed over for further consideration by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Charges may be pending.
