Resident Steals Truck To Flee Jurisdiction

A Lawrenceburg man reportedly stole a truck from a local car lot Wednesday in order to flee from the local court jurisdiction and avoid possible jail time.

Lawrenceburg Police Officers were summoned to Massey Motors , 1201 North Locust Avenue, around 2:00 p.m. where they spoke with Toby Massey. Massey reported that a local man had come to the lot and asked to test drive a 2000 model Chevrolet truck. The man was supposed to return the truck thirty to forty minutes later, however, he failed to do so.

At 3:17 p.m. Massey said he received a call from a female acquaintance of the man. She informed him that he had loaded his belongings into the truck and was leaving the state. She said he was heading to West Virginia “because he wanted to leave before court.” Reports indicate the man had an outstanding warrant issued through Lawrence County General Sessions Court for failure to appear.

Massey told officers he feared the man would destroy the truck when he arrived at his destination. Officers entered the truck into the National Crime Information System as a stolen vehicle, thus alerting other law enforcement officials. They report that they also obtained warrants charging the man, Paul Chambers, age 37, of 301 ½ Fall River Road, with the crime of theft over $500.
