Man Places 911 Call From Beneath House Following Death Threats

A resident of Western Lawrence County placed a 911 call from beneath his house after allegedly having his life threatened Saturday night.

Deputies who responded to the call for assistance around 10:38 p.m. report making contact with the thirty-seven-year-old victim’s father. He told them his son was hiding underneath the house because someone had made threats to kill him.

Deputies assured the victim no one else was about, and were eventually able to coax him from his hiding place.

The man told deputies he had been invited to a party that evening, and afterwards was “riding the back roads” with two acquaintances. While they were riding, he said one of the men put a knife to his neck and told him he would kill him if he did not hand over money or drugs. He said that he told the man he had some drugs at home, underneath the house, but that they would have to take him there so he could retrieve them.

They parked the victim’s car in the driveway of a nearby abandoned house, then walked along a field road and through several fields before they arrived at his home. They stayed in the weeds for around five minutes, he reported, to ensure that no one was moving about at the home.

The victim said he told the men he would retrieve the drugs from beneath the house, and that the same man told him “if he didn’t come out he would come in there and kill him.” The victim told deputies he crawled under the house, all the way to the other side, then placed a 911 call seeking help.

The victim told deputies the pair “must have stole the car ‘cause it wasn’t parked where he left it.” Deputies then issued a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) alert for the vehicle. In addition to the car, the victim said the pair was in possession of one of his cell phones.

After they left the premises, deputies received a call from the victim. He indicated he used the Global Positioning System in the cell phone to pinpoint the location of his accosters. Using the information, deputies were eventually able to locate the two men. They report they were “passed out” inside the car; a near-empty, half-gallon bottle of Vodka lying in the floor. Deputies found two black throwing knives beneath the passenger seat.

Deputies indicate the car engine was cool and that a considerable amount of dew had collected atop the vehicle. The pair told deputies the victim had gone to his house and never returned. They indicated they had tired of waiting and fallen asleep.

The case remains under investigation at the current time, however authorities report that both men were taken into custody. Joseph Bolton Dixon, Sr., 29, and Bolton Daniel Lee Andes “Danny” Patterson, 28, were both charged with one count of theft. Dixon was additionally charged with one count of aggravated assault.

Both are scheduled to for an initial appearance through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 2, 2010.
