Teens Face Charges In Saturday Night Theft, Vandalism Incidents

Three teenagers will face charges in connection with crimes committed in connection with a mischief spree overnight Saturday in the Summertown area.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that a resident of Dukes Parks Road summoned deputies to his home early Sunday when he discovered a four wheeler, overturned and abandoned behind his home. The man told deputies the Yomoto 110 ATV did not belong to him.

While they were waiting for a tow truck to retrieve the four wheeler, deputies report a man pulled up, saying that his stepson had stolen it. Owner Christopher Koss told deputies the ATV, valued at $600, had been stolen during the night.

When deputies spoke with one of the three teens said to be involved in the crime, he told them his brother “had wanted the four wheeler, so they stole it.” The eighteen year old said that it was he, his brother, 15, and a sixteen year old that had been involved in the matter.

When they spoke with the sixteen year old, he reportedly admitted they had “been out playing all night.” He indicated they had stolen the four wheeler, stabbed holes in a swimming pool at one home, and attempted to steal a John Deere Gator at another.

Louise Wright of Stevenson Road reported holes had been cut into the side of her swimming pool during the night and that her mailbox had been broken off, as well. She reported losses of approximately $1,500. Deputies noted the cuts were made with a flat, sharp object, possibly a knife.

Reports show the eighteen year old was arrested on charges of theft of property, vandalism, criminal trespassing and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Deputies indicated that juvenile petitions were being sought against the other two teens.
