Purchase Of Cold Meds Yields Meth Charges

The purchase of cold medication last week ultimately resulted in meth manufacturing charges being issued against two Lawrenceburg residents.

A purchase of pseudoephedrine, scrutinized by the National Precursor Log Exchange, led Kroger Pharmacy employees to notify agents with the Lawrenceburg Police Department of the possible methamphetamine connection.

Agents made their way to 604 First Avenue where they confronted Lois Tennille Gulley, age 30, and Jimmy Dale Hogan, age 47, about the purchase. Gulley had made the purchase a short time before, but told agents she no longer had the medication. She told agents that she had purchased the medicine to treat a cold however they noted that she exhibited no cold symptoms.

After gaining permission to conduct a search of the premises agents report locating a lock box in a bedroom closet that contained several syringes, spoons bearing burn marks and narcotics residue, a marijuana pipe with lingering residue, a set of postal scales, and a set of digital scales.

Gulley allegedly admitted to agents that she is an intravenous drug user and claimed ownership of the syringes and spoons. Hogan told them that the pipe and scales belonged to him.

Numerous other items associated with the manufacture of meth were located during a search of Hogan’s vehicle. Agents report finding items inside a duffle bag, including bottles, a mason jar, aluminum foil, and lithium batteries.

Agents report that they questioned Hogan about the cold medication purchased, but that he denied any knowledge of the medications or involvement in meth manufacturing.

Gulley allegedly admitted that she had purchased the cold pills so that Hogan could use them to make meth. Hogan and Gulley were both charged with the crimes of promotion of the manufacture of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both are scheduled to answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 1, 2013.
