Worker Injured In 43 Construction Zone

Authorities report that a Lewisburg man sustained injuries while directing traffic in the construction zone along U.S. Highway 43 (North Locust Avenue) in Lawrenceburg on Sunday.

Lawrenceburg Police Department reports show that Ervin Cable Construction employee Leslie Paul Gatlin, age 35, was directing traffic from the turn lane when the accident occurred.

Construction crews were pulling a cable across all four traffic lanes when the driver of a northbound 2005 GMC Sierra drove through, striking the cable.

Lawrenceburg Police Officers report that the cable was approximately eighteen inches off the ground at the time, and was tied to a four wheeler on the right side of the roadway. When the truck struck the cable, the cable struck Galtin, knocking him to the ground. He was quickly transported to Crockett Hospital for medical attention. Gatlin reportedly sustained injuries to his legs/ankles and one wrist.

The driver, Clint Crews Alexander, Jr., 53, of 208 Good Hope Road told officers that, although he had noticed the man standing in the turn lane, the man did not appear to be directing traffic.

At the time reports were filed, no charges had been placed in connection with the accident.
