Injured Teen Burglar Captured

A Leoma teenager faces charges after he allegedly burglarized and vandalized a business in that area Tuesday evening.

According to reports filed by agents with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to Racon Incorporated at 2613 U.S. Highway 43 South, around 11:55 p.m. to investigate the sounding of a burglar alarm.

When they arrived, deputies report finding a window on the north side of the structure had been busted out. More careful inspection revealed that the perpetrator had apparently cut himself on the glass. Blood and fingerprints were processed into evidence.

Deputies notified officials with the emergency room at Crockett Hospital to be on the lookout for a subject seeking medical attention for cuts. Hospital officials telephoned deputies about just such a case shortly thereafter.

When they first spoke with the sixteen-year-old, deputies report he began offering a confession to the crime. He was advised not to speak until his parents were present. Later, they report he and his mother gave a full statement regarding the crime. Deputies indicate the teen admitted he had burglarized a storage building at the site as well as breaking out the window on the main building to make entry to the interior of the structure.

Deputies report that the teen was treated at the hospital for his wounds. They indicate they will seek petitions through Lawrence County Juvenile Court, charging the teen with two counts of burglary and vandalism.
