Thieves Pilfer Parts From Closed Saw Mill Business

A Collinwood resident told local authorities Tuesday that he had been made aware that thieves had recently made off with much of his property from a closed saw mill business.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the business, at 3590 Waynesboro Highway, where they spoke with owner Leon Patrick Brewer.

Brewer indicated he had received a call from an individual, informing him that persons had been stealing parts of his saw mill. He said that when he arrived at the premises he discovered numerous items missing.

Stolen were a large saw mill, small saw mill, two fork lifts, tractor and a semi truck with a total estimated valued of $26,000.

Brewer said he had no idea who might have taken the items, but speculated they may have been stolen by scrap metal thieves.

Investigation into the matter is currently continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
