Arrestee Assaults Two Officers And Neighborhood Watch Member

A Lawrenceburg man who was trespassing on Housing Authority property Monday was arrested after he allegedly assaulted two police officers and a neighborhood watch member.

Corday Brionte Jones, 23, of 585 Skyline Drive, was booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center Monday evening on charges of criminal trespassing, aggravated burglary, public intoxication, vandalism over $500, resisting arrest, assault, and two counts of assault of a police officer.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were summoned to investigate the matter after two neighborhood watch members reported that a man who had been banned from Housing Authority property had forced his way inside a home at 1027 Mildred Avenue. They told officers they had been flagged down by the homeowners.

When they approached the home, officers noticed Jones was attempting to leave through a rear door. They ordered him back to the porch and told him to sit in a chair.

Jones affirmed that he had been informed he was not allowed on Housing Authority property. He told officers he “was just visiting for a couple of minutes.”

When Jones was ordered to stand and place his hands behind his back, officers say he replied, “No, I didn’t do anything wrong.”

Reports show Jones was uncooperative and combative. During a scuffle, reports show he punched Patrolman Blake Mays in the face, damaging his glasses and knocking them from his face.

Reports show he also struck Patrolman Daniel Taylor in the right eye. Both officers suffered minor injuries.

As a result of the struggle, reports show one of the officer administered pepper spray in an attempt to immobilize Jones. The wind direction caused the spray to contaminate both officers, as well.

Although Jones was momentarily immobilized, officers report he was able to break free, then ran through the home, out the rear door and toward 1023 Smith Avenue.

Neighborhood watch member Michael Hill attempted to intervene and reports show Jones punched him in the head, as well.

Officers had called for backup and Jones was apprehended by a responding officer. Jones was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was incarcerated under a bond of $36,550.

Both officers received medical evaluation and treatment at the scene.
