Columbia Man Arrested For Assault After Crawling Through Window, Choking Resident

Law enforcement officials took a Columbia man into custody early Sunday morning on charges that he crawled through a local woman’s window and choked her, while four children were inside the house.

When they arrived at the victim’s home shortly after 5:30 a.m., officers report that the female resident was standing in the street with all four kids, screaming for someone to help her.

The victim reported that she and Curtis Leon Reynolds, age 32, had been drinking at a party earlier. She said that he had come to her residence, knocking on the door, but that she had not answered because they were in bed.

She said that when she failed to answer the door, Reynolds then crawled through a window near where the children were sleeping, proceeded to her bedroom, and began to strangle her. She said that she yelled for the kids to help her.

When they came into the room, she said Reynolds became enraged and began breaking things throughout the house.

Officers indicate that when they had arrived the suspect was standing outside, but moved inside once he noticed them. They said that he stepped back outside as they approached the front door and that he exhibited signs of being intoxicated. They noted that he had cuts to his arms and blood all over his body.

From the porch officers could see that the windshields of three vehicles were broken, along with several items inside the house. One of the damaged vehicles, they said, belonged to Reynolds.

Officers report that Reynolds was uncooperative at his arrest, refusing to allow himself to be handcuffed. He continued to resist arrest until officers sprayed him with an immobilizing spray. He was arrested without further incident and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center.

Reynolds was booked under charges of aggravated burglary, aggravated domestic assault, vandalism, public intoxication, resisting stop, halt, frisk, and four counts of reckless endangerment. He will answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 2, 2013.
