Chief Warns Not To Drive Golf Carts On City Streets

Lawrenceburg Police Chief Judy Moore has issued a warning to area residents, pointing out that it is NOT legal to drive golf carts on city streets.

Moore issued the statement on Friday, indicating that members of her department have received numerous complaints regarding golf carts being driven on Lawrenceburg streets.

In some instances, she said, officers have stopped carts that were being driven by teen or pre-teen children. The parents of the children were subsequently notified and had to pick up the children, then return the carts to their homes without driving them on streets.

“Driving golf carts on public streets is a violation of state law,” Moore pointed out. “It appears that most times when we were involved, the parents were allowing this to happen.”

Moore continued, “I felt the need to make sure that everyone is aware that this is a violation of the law, and the Lawrenceburg Police Department will be enforcing this. The violators will be issued citations and if the violator is a juvenile, a parent or guardian will have to appear in Juvenile Court with them.”

Although there have been discussions held during meetings of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council regarding what it would take to make such transportation legal locally, no local laws have been established that would make it legal to drive golf carts on Lawrenceburg streets.
