County Commission To Hold Special Session On Tuesday

Members of the Lawrence County Board of Commissioners will meet in special session Tuesday in order to adopt a continuing budget.

Commissioners are slated to address five items of business during the meeting. They will consider approving budget amendments to both the Lawrence County and Lawrence County School Board 2012-2013 budgets.

Since the fiscal year ends on June 30, commissioners are asked to adopt a continuing budget. This will allow the government to continue operations as outlined in the 2012-2013 budget ordinance.

Commissioners will consider approving a resolution, “To encourage the promotion of the economic, energy conservation and environmental benefits of recycling and to support a recycling hub being located at the Lawrence County Transfer Station.” The resolution is identical to one approved by City of Lawrenceburg leaders during their June 13 meeting.

Officials are seeking to have a recycling hub that would serve three counties, situated at the Lawrence County Balefill. They say that passage of the resolution by all local governments is a step in that process.

In addition, commissioners will be asked to select constables to serve in both the Southern and Northern Constable Districts.

Commissioners voted to vacate the posts during their May business meeting, indicating that the individuals elected to the positions by county voters had made no attempt to fulfill the requirements outlined under Tennessee Codes Annotated.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the Lawrence County Courthouse.
