A plane crashed into the Tennessee River on Tuesday.

According to the Knoxville police department a small plane with a single occupant crashed into the Tennessee River near Knoxville on Tuesday.

Officers stated the 62 year old pilot was trying to land the plane at a nearby airport when his engine failed causing him to crash into the river.

The first responders on the scene said the man was luckily unharmed, and was able to swim to shore after the crash occured.

The investigation will be taken over by the Federal Aviation Administration.
