Deadline Approaching To Order Breast Cancer License Plate

With the deadline looming, individuals working to produce Tennessee license plates to assist with breast cancer programs report that numbers are currently falling short.

State officials have approved the production of specialty license plates bearing the familiar pink ribbon – the symbol for breast cancer awareness. Backers of the project hope the plates will serve a dual purpose. When motorists notice the plates, they hope they will be reminded to participate in early detection programs such as monthly self-exams and annual clinical exams and mammograms. In addition, funds raised through the sale of the plates will be used to further breast cancer treatment and education.

In order for the state to produce the specialty plates, they must receive pre-orders for a minimum of 1,000 license plates. To date, only 850 individuals have opted to pre-order.  The specialty plates are available at a cost of $35.00. In order for them to be produced, those interested in obtaining the specialty plates must place an order and pre-pay by the deadline of June 30, 2008.

Lawrence County residents interested in ordering specialty breast cancer license plates should check with the office of the County Court Clerk at the Lawrence County Courthouse on West Gaines Street prior to the deadline.
