Parking Lot Dispute Ends In Shots Fired

   A brawl that erupted in the parking lot of a local pool room during the weekend ended in shots being fired.

   Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched to intervene in the brawl around 12:40 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived at the scene, at 520 Holtsford Street, they report seeing one subject throw something into a nearby wooded area. They also indicate that several individuals in the parking lot were engaged in a fight.

   After several policemen were on the scene they set to work restoring order. The owner of the pool hall told them that during the brawl one of the patrons had fired a handgun while in a crowd of people. He reported that the man then threw the weapon into the woods, climbed into the back of a gray car, and left.

   Officers report that the suspect car was stopped a short time later on Clearview Avenue. A nine-shot .22 caliber High Standard revolver was recovered inside the car along with eight .22 caliber rounds and one spent casing. An occupant of the car, Christopher Lee Johnson, 28, of 524 Fourth Street, was placed under arrest on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and reckless endangerment. In addition Johnson, who is a convicted felon, was charged with unlawful carrying/possession of a firearm.

   Johnson is scheduled to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 7, 2009.
