Jury Finds Driver Guilty Of Wrongdoing In 2007 Crash

A jury has found a local man at fault in connection with a 2007 crash that resulted in serious injury to at least three individuals.

The crash, which occurred March 6, 2007 along Fall River Road, was investigated through the Tennessee Highway Patrol. At that time troopers reported that J.L. Jacobs, the driver of a Ford F-150, was southbound when he struck a Geo Tracker head-on. Inside the Tracker were Patricia Copeland and sons Malachi, 16, and Levi 14.

Jacobs, Patricia Copeland and Malachi Copeland were all flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, while Levi Copeland was transported by ambulance to Crockett Hospital.

Jacobs was indicted by a Lawrence County Grand Jury on three counts of vehicular assault. Trial on the matter was held late last week through Lawrence County Circuit Court. After hearing testimony, jurors opted to find Jacobs guilty on the lesser charges of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and two counts of reckless driving.

Sentencing in the matter is scheduled for July 30,2009.
