Deputies Intervene In Domestic Situations

Local law enforcement agents were kept busy in the weekend’s sweltering temperatures, intervening in a number of domestic situations; some involving violence.

One such situation occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. Sunday, when deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a home on Tingle Trapp Road. When they arrived on the scene, agents report finding that the male resident had a woman by the shirt and was pushing her across the driveway. They indicate he “was yelling and had his fist drawn back to hit her.”

The man was quickly taken into custody. The woman, age 27, indicated her father had been consuming alcohol and drugs throughout the day and had begun threatening suicide.

She and two others came to the home to check on him and an argument ensued. She said that during the altercation her father “picked her up and slammed her on the ground, then got a screw driver and threatened to stab her with it.” The woman sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.

The father, Noah Christopher Russ, age 50, was arrested on charges of aggravated domestic assault and transported to the Lawrence County Jail without further incident.

At 1:16 a.m. Monday, deputies were dispatched to 2463 Highway 43 South, Leoma, to intervene in another scuffle. The victim, age 21, reported she and Joseph William Pufahl, Jr., 21, had begun arguing earlier. She said during the argument she made fun of his teeth. In retaliation, she said he commented he would “infect her,” then bit her on the right forearm.

The victim said she asked Pufahl repeatedly to leave, but each time he refused, pushed her down and grabbed her by the throat. In addition, she reported he punched holes in the walls. Pufahl was subsequently arrested on charges of domestic assault and domestic vandalism and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.

Both Russ and Pufhal are scheduled to answer the charges against them through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on July 5, 2010.
