Hinson Says Demo Landfill Project On Track

Acting City Administrator Ken Hinson reported to the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Commissioners last week that only one permit is preventing the opening of the new demolition landfill.

Hinson explained during a meeting of the board last Thursday, that the existing landfill, which has been closed for some weeks, must now undergo state inspection in order for the closing to become official.

In regards to the new landfill, Hinson explained that approximately half of the land that will be utilized as a landfill has been cleared of vegetation as well as topsoil.

“We only need one more permit,” Hinson said, “then we will be able to begin dumping demolition debris again.”

The city currently pays a hauler to transport demolition debris to Giles County. There they must pay tipping fees in order to off load debris. “Being able to dump debris at the new site,” Hinson pointed out, “will save the city a lot of money.”

Commissioner Tim Dickey asked that Hinson pursue access to a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Seed Program that would assist the city in seeding the land in a “wildlife friendly” manner.
