Commission Selects Burks To Fill Vacant Seat

   Members of the Lawrence County Commission have named a new representative to that board, filling a seat left vacant through a recent resignation.

   During a meeting Monday board members named Bill Burks to fill the seat left vacant by the recent resignation of Commissioner Chuck Doerflinger. Doerflinger tendered his resignation last month after moving out of his district. Doerflinger recommended that Burks be selected to complete the term. Burks was the only nominee.

   Burks, who is a current member of the Lawrence County Board of Education, must resign that post in order to accept the commission position. The school board will then face the task of appointing an individual to complete the remaining fifteen months of Burks’ term.
