The new law banning hand held cellphone use goes into effect next month.
On July 1st the new Tennessee law banning hand held cellphone use while driving will be in effect.
State legislators passed the law making it illegal to hold your cell phone while driving, and after next month anyone doing so could receive a fine.
The new law does allow all cellphone features that you can use without holding your phone like: earpieces, headsets, voice commands, using GPS with a mounted phone, and some vehicles allow you to connect your phone to your car.
If a driver is seen holding their phone the first time will be a $50 fine, If using your phone results in a wreck it's a $100, and if your caught in a school or work zone when flashing lights are on it's a $200 fine.
The only exceptions are for law enforcement, first responders, and other utility workers in emergency situations.
