Inmate Sustains Concussion In Assault
An inmate at the Lawrence County Detention Center was examined by medical personnel in the wake of an assault incident in recent days.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that a corrections officer was collecting lunch trays when she noticed an argument in progress between two female inmates.
The injured inmate, age 23, told the officer that inmate Sara Elizabeth Brewer, 23, of Summertown, had approached her from behind while she was at the television set, slammed her head into the wall, threw her to the ground, then beat her head into the floor.
The victim was transported to One Stop Medical for medical attention. The inmate reportedly sustained a concussion during the assault. Once she had received treatment, the inmate was returned to the detention center.
Brewer was issued a charge of aggravated assault. She is slated to answer the charge through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on July 5, 2011.
