Husband Struck With Beer Bottle

A Long Branch Road resident was arrested Monday evening after she allegedly assaulted her husband with a beer bottle, causing him injury.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department caught the 11:00 p.m. call. They report arriving to find the male resident, age 55, standing outside, holding a towel to his forehead, bleeding.

The couple told deputies that the husband had called his wife earlier and told her that “her dogs were going to die if she didn’t come home.” When she arrived home, she said her husband was in bed, sleeping.

The couple indicated that they began to argue. During the altercation, the victim said his wife struck him in the forehead with a beer bottle, causing a laceration. He then reportedly “grabbed her in a headlock” to keep her from injuring him further.

The husband refused medical attention, however deputies indicate the wife was complaining of neck pain and a cut to a right finger, and requested transport to the hospital. While at the facility, deputies report they could find no visible injury to the woman’s neck or finger. They indicate that she did sustain two knots on the left side of her head.

The wife, Vanessa Joyce Murphy, 47, was treated, then released from the hospital. She was subsequently placed under arrest on charges of aggravated domestic assault and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.

Murphy is scheduled to answer the charge through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on Monday, July 6, 2009.
