Mom Charged With Child Neglect

A Lawrence County Grand Jury has returned indictments against a local woman, charging her with aggravated child neglect.

Sandi Airelle Putnam is the wife of Phillip Blake Putnam, age 22. Phillip Putnam was charged with fracturing the arm of his four-month-old son in October, 2009.

Phillip Putnam was arrested on charges of aggravated child abuse after Lawrenceburg Police Officers were summoned to the emergency room at Crockett Hospital to investigate the crime. The baby was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville at that time for additional medical attention.

Phillip Putnam later entered into a plea bargain agreement, entering a guilty plea to the lesser charge of attempted child neglect. He was sentenced to serve eight years incarcerated through the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

Grand jury members have now opted to issue indictments against mother Sandi Putnam in connection with the same incident. Reports show that Sandi Putnam, of 476 Scenic Road, came by the Lawrence County Jail on May 27 to receive service of the warrant. She was arrested without incident.

Sandi Putnam is scheduled to answer the charge through Lawrence County Circuit court on Monday, June 14.
